  • My manual winding gear systems has failed, should I repair or replace the system?

Typically speaking it’s best to replace the system, for a couple of reasons.  First is that although Teleflex is the best known, there are multiple brands in the market manufacturing winding gear and there’s no easy way to tell which brand conduit or cable you have. Another key reason is that all the equipment is subject to the same wear and tear, therefore, other components are likely to fail very soon.

  • How do Teleflex and other Manual Winding Gear Systems work?

By turning the operating handle from an accessible location, you drive a helical cable inside a conduit fixed to your wall. As the cable travels through a chain opener located at the window, it drives a cog which then drives a chain out of the opener body and its links lock in a way that allows the chain to become rigid, pushing the window or vent open.
