A folding arm actuator can be fitted to side hung windows, doors and vents and can be designed to open either outwards or inwards. They work via a motorised arm attached to the opening that begins in a folded position and unfolds as it is powered by the motor.

They are popular for windows and skylights in hard-to-reach areas, as part of a natural ventilation system and for AOVs and windows for smoke ventilation.
